blue fish - April 30
Solis Log: 31 11'42N 169 08'32W
From about 4AM this morning, there was basically no wind at all. By 7AM the ocean was totally flat. Like a lake. Amazing. You can see down who knows how far. There were two blue fish with yellow tails which were so close to the boat you could practically reach out and grab them. Luke actually put the gaff in the water to try and snag one. They must have followed the boat for about 2 miles. We were going slowing than a walking pace, but it was funny that they were just near the surface just at the stern of the boat. Luke put in various lures but they would not bite. We wanted fish for lunch, but no luck.
The water is so clear it is really amazing. But again frustrating that we are so close to the destination, but not hardly moving at all.

How about the prize for guessing correctly is dinner prepared by the King, aka "Chef Louie!" Maybe a little Coconut Mac-n-Cheese, doused with Tabasco and a Kit-Kat for dessert!

"Dove" by Robin Lee Graham, an extraordinary autobiographical account about a teenager who set out to circumnavigate the world in a 24' sloop.
From the 1800's, Joshua Slocum's, "Sailing Alone Around the World" another account of man vs. sea.
For Christmas I sent Darshaun the DVD
"Deep Water", a true story of a man who took on the most dangerous nautical challenge of all, solo, nonstop, around the world boat race.
Would it surprise anyone to hear that at some time in the near future we may be tracking a much longer voyage?
It will be great fun when they return to land, read back through the blog, it's comments and the journey we have had here at home. I encourage all of you who have been enjoying this "reality show" complete with interactive, somewhat emotional episodes to continue and share your expressions whatever they may be, music, poetry,compassion, but above all a great sense of humor!

As far as dates, well team, I made my flight for May 8th about ten days ago banking on that as their arrival....hope to at least win a t-shirt if I'm right...hopefully they will arrive the 7th.....seeing them AFTER a shower and shave might be preferable after all, although maybe Ron will decide to sport his beard for a while just for that crusty-old-sage sailor look. He might look pretty stylish with a beard and that captain’s hat he bought at West Marine the day before he left. Let's face it, however he looks, he'll be beautiful to me. I'm getting more excited by the minute and pulling out my Hawaii gear and garb soon to get packed. This has been an incredible journey for all of us....now that it's coming round the bend I can feel myself breathing in BIG and holding steady, getting ready for the huge relief of the out breath upon seeing their faces aglow against the colors of the Hawaii skies. Yes. Godspeed, Safe Landing and Good Winds Solis sailors! You are an amazing crew from an incredible hearty family with hoards of fans all over the world dusting off our pom-poms and tuning our instruments to welcome you home!
